Night of Remembrance

On May 27, 2009, Michigan Disability Rights Coalition held a "Night of Remembrance" at the Unitarian Universalist Church in East Lansing, Michigan. 50 people gathered to remember the lives of people with disabilities who had died prematurely, and to celebrate their dreams and accomplishments. We all tried to draw lessons for the fight for truly inclusive communities. We hope to make this an annual event, to draw on all the strengths we carry as a community.

As part of the Night of Remembrance, we have created this web site, to help all of us remember those we have lost, and carry forward their values and hopes.

The Remembrance Web Site

This site is designed to be a permanent repository for thoughts, pictures, and (we hope) videos that memorialize persons with disabilities that you love. You can create a personal memorial for that person, and return to it when you wish. You can add and remove materials, poems, pictures of treasured objects, and other similar activities.

You can keep your memorial private, or open it to our larger community as a testament to the person you loved, and who stood for our efforts as an inclusive community.

Begin your Remembrance!
